The federal Employment Equity Act comes into force today. It applies to federally regulated employees but not to the federal public service.

Essentially, employment equity requires employers to identify and eliminate unnecessary barriers that limit the employment opportunities of historically disadvantaged groups such as visible minorities, women, and Aboriginal persons
