1964
1964 was a big year for "La Belle Province." Beatlemania rolls
into the Montreal Forum, and two key human rights laws are passed.
Completing the trend that began in Manitoba in 1900, the Civil Code is
amended to give married women full legal and property rights.
Fair employment legislation prohibits discrimination in hiring or employment
against persons due to race, colour, creed, ethnicity, or national origin.
The new legislation is part of a shift towards greater protection of human
rights across the country.

Did you know?
On September 8, the Beatles play two shows at the Montreal Forum, but
don't sell out the matinée. After death threats against Ringo during
the shows, the Boys vow never to play in Montreal again, and they never
do - at least as a group.
But in 1969, John Lennon will select Montreal as the site of his famous
"bed in" for peace with Yoko Ono. They will record "Give
Peace a Chance" in a suite at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel.
