Consultations

The Canadian Human Rights Commission's consultation process is now over.

Between October and December 2004, the Commission consulted with its stakeholders to obtain their views on the five guiding principles it had established to focus its actions. The Commission’s aim is a human rights system that:

• serves the public interest;
• transforms behaviour;
• is comprehensive;
• is preventive and forward-looking; and
• is independent, impartial and ensures good governance.

Through meetings and written submissions, the Commission has consulted with federal government departments, private sector organizations, advocacy groups, unions and employer representatives, groups representing the interests of Aboriginal peoples, visible minorities, persons with disabilities and women and individual experts.

The results are now being compiled and analyzed. The outcome of these consultations will be documented in our next Annual Report to be released in March 2005. A full consultation report will also be produced and posted on this website.
