Commissioner's Messages

The Chief Commissioner today issued the following statement:

After thirty-six years in the Public Service of Canada, including serving as Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission since August, 2002, I have decided to take my retirement effective May 30th.

It has been a great privilege to serve in many different government departments and agencies and to work on many issues that have touched the lives of Canadians.

I would especially like to thank my fellow Commissioners, the management and the staff of the Commission for their continuing dedication to the cause of human rights in Canada. In particular, I am pleased that through the hard work and professionalism of all of its employees, the Commission’s programs have been modernized. The Commission’s increased emphasis on more streamlined case management, mediation, discrimination prevention activities, research, strategic litigation and modern management practices has created a solid foundation upon which the Commission can continue its important work on behalf of Canadians.
