Program:


The 2008 Discrimination Prevention Forum is an opportunity for employers, managers, decision-makers, policy makers and employees alike. It’s all about people making an impact in their workplace by paving the way to inclusiveness, preventing discrimination, and changing corporate culture.

The workshops will include:

  • Accommodating Family/Marital Status: A Legal Update
    This workshop will examine the increasing phenomenon of family /marital responsibilities and the means to best address them in the workplace. The legal update will provide a review of existing case law and explore practical and proven approaches to accommodating employees with family and marital obligations.

  • Innovations that work: Accommodating physical disabilities
    The workshop will provide a legal update on recent settlement, decisions and trends  related to accommodating physical disabilities in the workplace. It will also examine the employer’s perspective as participants prepare to embark on the “Accommodation Superhighway.”

  • Proven practices in Return-to-Work
    Challenges in disability management will be the focus of this session. Participants will be invited to share their best practices and learn from each other in order to apply new and proven strategies for an effective return to work. Globe and Mail series of articles.

  • Religious Accommodation: Responses to an Emerging Need
    Across the country, religious accommodation has been a growing interest for employers and employees alike. This workshop will examine recent trends in case law, as well as the impacts of the Bouchard-Taylor Report. Participants will also focus on going from accommodation to creating an environment for equality.

Directions

From Montréal — Take Highway 40 West to Highway 417 West. Get off at the Vanier Parkway (Exit 117). Turn right on the Vanier Parkway. The hotel is located at the corner of Vanier Parkway and Coventry Road.

From Toronto — Take Highway 401 East. Get off at Highway 416 North. At the end of highway 416, take Highway 417 East. Get off at the Vanier Parkway (Exit 117). Turn left on the Vanier Parkway. The hotel is located at the corner of Vanier Parkway and Coventry Road.

From Ottawa International Airport (Macdonald-Cartier) — Take the Airport Parkway Northwest and exit at the Riverside East-Heron West ramp. Turn slight left to take the Riverside East Ramp. Turn right onto Riverside Drive, follow Riverside Drive (Riverside Drive becomes the Vanier Parkway) The Hampton Inn Ottawa is located at the corner of the Vanier Parkway and Coventry Road.
